The truth is
we’d all like to have as
many customers as we want AND
have them all become Devoted
Advocates!
But this
isn’t how it is.
Some people
just won’t ever be Devoted
Advocates.
Nevertheless…it
can be a whole lot more
than you have now.
The reason I
say this is that the vast
majority of professionals and other small home based company owners
make a huge
number of mistakes that costs them
great amounts of income,
create
frustrating
business
uncertainty and rob them of
personal satisfaction,
achievement and
security.
Why?
Because of what they don’t know, don’t understand and don’t apply to the whole
process of strategic marketing and
tactical sales through out the entire cycle of their customer doing
business
with them.
Don’t Be
Like Them
There are a
series of moves that when done
in the right order will
allow you
hands-on control over your small
home company.
Each has its
own result and each is part
of your home based company puzzle. The more you leave out, the more
difficult and
frustrating you make it on yourself!
Here’s a case
on point.
Most SHBOs
are stuck on doing their
“technical thing.” They focus on it!
Now, I see
nothing wrong in being talented
at what they do.
However,
there is something wrong
here though
because doing
their technical thing is out
of sequence in the process (the right
order of doing things)
of their home business! When priorities are out
of order its likely killing their small business.
Let me
explain.
The process
of getting business goes:
1st
attract attention from your niche
2nd
get new prospects
3rd
get those
prospects to say yes to what
you sell
4th
deliver
that “thing” you do
(service or product)
Most
professionals and small enterprise
people know this is true, yet they
continue
and insist in putting the huge majority of their efforts into getting
better at
their “technical thing.” (#4)
The idea of
“I’ll do what I do so well
that the people I serve can’t help but send me more customers and
clients,” is
wonderful, pleasing to the heart, and fills you with fuzzy feelings and
your
bank account with cash! Right?
Oh, I wish
that were true,” just doesn’t
make it so.
As
a matter of fact …that idea is
an absolute fairytale.
But before
you turn your nose up at and
get aggressive on me, please understand that I absolutely agree that
your
service or product should be exemplary and something you are proud of.
The reality,
HOWEVER, is that unless you
get as good at the first three steps you will never
have the business
you want!
The very best
parachute is useless UNLESS
it is open. The same applies to your home business. It simply doesn’t
matter
how good your skill(s) or product line(s) are. Because its
business that you need to keep (your home) company.
How big are
these other three parts of
your business?
At
least 50%!
Half of your
time, monies, training,
energies and efforts should go into the acquisition of new customers
and
getting them to say yes repeatedly.
If you have a
new business, it can be a
whole lot more. If you have a mature one with
the right systems, it can be way less.
What I know
from my vast experience with running
my own home based businesses (since 1982) as well as working with many
others
is that the majority of them prefer to use time, money, energy and
effort to
get better technically.
Man oh man, why
is this true?
Because, it‘s
their comfort zone. It is what they
know best. Therefore, for them
it is “normal”.
Here’s
something to consider: If you
want “normal” results, just do what they do (everyone else).
Just
operate the same normal way and that is what you’ll get.
In other
words, you’ll get the same
frustrating business results.
The real
truth is that just about all of
them would be far, far better off to put some of that time, money and
energy
into creating a strategy and tactical implementation
of that strategy into the acquiring of new customer / clients and
getting their
customer base to say yes repeatedly.
Then they can have the lifestyle,
income and freedom of
time to live as they choose.
